Welcome to the 2019 MSA ECR Membrane Symposium
The Membrane Society of Australasia is thrilled to announce the 6th MSA Early-Career Researcher Symposium. The Symposium will be hosted by The University of Melbourne from January 30 to February 1 2019, covering the most critical and compelling membrane science topics such as water treatment, desalination, membranes for food, energy and storage and gas separation. Key note speakers from Industry and Academia will present their research outcomes and engage students and ECRs during the symposium workshops to discuss your projects and ideas on the membrane domain.
We look forward to meeting you at the Symposium.

Conference topics
The theme of this symposium is Addressing the Food-Water-Energy Nexus through Innovations and Advances in Membrane Materials and Processes. The following topics are covered:
- Advanced membrane materials
- Gas and vapor separation
- Desalination
- Wastewater treatment
- Membrane fouling
- Resource recovery
- Membrane bioreactors
- Energy conversion and storage
- Membrane applications in mining, agriculture, food and beverage industry
- Membranes and membrane devices in biomedical applications
We are also pleased to announce that our Science Communication Workshop will be delivered by Dr Jenny Martin, founder of the science communication program at the University of Melbourne. Outstanding communication skills are vital for a successful career for young professionals. As part of the symposium program, you will learn about effective communication of your research to scientific and lay audiences, enhancing your skills in grant/job applications. An industry panel will also be invited to our Career Development Workshop to explore and discuss career pathways for young membrane researchers.
